Scoring System

Note: All reviews are my own opinion, and therefore subjective. If you disagree with a score I’d love to discuss your thoughts on a game, but please don’t be insulting.

10 OUT OF 10: Incredible. A representative of everything a video game should try to be. If there are flaws, they don’t detract from the enjoyment of the game. Examples: Grand Theft Auto V, SOMA

9 OUT OF 10: Amazing. Certainly a fantastic experience, but there could be some little flaws here and there that prevent it from the perfect 10. Examples: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Amnesia: The Dark Descent

8 OUT OF 10: Great. A very enjoyable experience that either has some issues that hold it back or it simply brings nothing new or fresh to the genre or medium. Examples: F.E.A.R. 2, Call Of Duty: Black Ops 2

7 OUT OF 10: GOOD: A solid game that was enjoyable to experience, but won’t have you hankering to play it again. Examples: Borderlands 2, The Walking Dead: Season 2

6 OUT OF 10: ABOVE AVERAGE: The sort of game that isn’t bad, but very forgettable. Won’t ever really “wow” you, just provide you with some lukewarm entertainment. Examples: Left 4 Dead 2, Fallout 3

5 OUT OF 10: AVERAGE: Not a bad game, but not a good one either. You won’t be wasting your time playing a 5, but you won’t exactly be enriching your life, either. Examples: Dead By Daylight, Mass Effect

4 OUT OF 10: SUB-PAR. A game that could have had potential but ultimate falls short of the mark. A good idea marred by poor execution. Examples: Husk, WWE 2K15

3 OUT OF 10: BAD. A game that could be bug-riddled, boring or badly made, there may be a glimmer of hope somewhere but it quickly fades. Examples: Underdread, No Man’s Sky

2 OUT OF 10: AWFUL. The only positive thing I can say about a 2 out of 10 is that at least the game launches. Examples: Ride To Hell: Retribution, Beyond: Two Souls

1 OUT OF 10: THE WORST. To achieve a 1 out of 10 with me your game has to be deliberately offensive, awfully made or literally unplayable. Quite an achievement. Examples: The Slaughtering Grounds, Kimulator
